CINQUE TERRE WINES |
The Wines
The wine of Cinque Terre is primarily a white wine and made from the grapes of the vineyards along the slopes of the mountains of Cinque Terre. Some vineyards are still being cultivated, for the specialists, with Bosco, Albarola and Vermentino grapes. The specialtie is the Sciacchetrà : liquored wine with 18% of alcohol. It is made by drying the grapes for a few months in a very dry place. The wine is at its best after some further years of ripening with a piece of Gorgonzola.
The wine can be purchased by the bottle at the enoteca in each village or in a restaurant with your meal. For dinner or lunch in a restaurant, the wine ordered by the carafe (un litro, un mezzo o un quarto - a liter, a half a liter or a quarter of a liter) will be wine that has been made locally and then purchased directly from the winemarker by the restaurant. It is always good!
Due to major investments in cutting edge technologies in wine production, Cantina della Cooperativa Agricoltura delle Cinque Terre is the most productive venture in the area. The wine of "Coste": Costa de Campu di Manarola, Costa de Sera di Riomaggiore and Costa dá Posa di Volastra are made by dividing grapes coming form historical vineyards. The Cinque Terre D.O.C. wine is highly recognised around the world.
These wines represent the result of a careful selection highlighting the specific climate differences and its percentage of different grapes. The white dry grapes, carefully selected and dried on shady racks for a long period produce the king of all Cinque Terre wines: lo Sciacchetrà. The yearly production of this special wine si stictly limited and it represents the proud of the Cooperativa Agricola.
